Wooly Bear

Born in the fall of 1999 out of a breeding of Statler imports.
She died 2004
(in the Gibbons' fire)

Wooly Bear had a huge mane
all of her life. She has had a
major impact on the Lionhead breed. She is a foundation of the
Cimmaron bloodline and appears
in the background on many
pedigrees in of top Lionheads
in the United States.

Imported from England by
Toni Tubbs, this doe was a large doe - 5lbs. She carried flank and ear wool even though she was
a single mane.
Her body pattern was a full
blanket but she lacked any
nose markings.

Best Senior in Show at the
2003 Lionhead Nationals.

Though he was a purebred
(F4) he carried Britannia
blood on his dam's side.
He was very clean flanked
and had a nice mane. He appears on many Lionhead Pedigrees.



Lindner's Baby Blue

Baby Blue was out of a breeding
of two Statler purebreds. She is about 8 months in the photo and shows the typical stance
common in the original imports.
She has a very nice head/ears.
She was the first dilute born in Minnesota and maybe the first
one born in the United States.

Daughter of Wooly Bear and Statler Serengeti. She was
3 1/2 lbs. A top winning Lionhead in her time she
had 8 Bob and 3 BOS wins. Like her dam she carried her mane all her life. Photo is
taken at 18 months after a couple litters.

JoAnn Statler, she is a
foundation of the Statler bloodline. She can be found in many
American Lionhead pedigrees. JoAnn allowed Arden Wetzel to
take her to help him with his presentation breeding program. DandyLion was a large doe, common at that time - 5lbs

Pictured at 10 weeks. Notice how long he looks in this incorrect pose. He had a clean face yet carried a very wooly saddle as a baby. He was clean in body and face as an adult but kept a very large mane. Like many of the old Lionheads he was not a showable color . He was Broken Sable Point Marten.

This doe was out of a half Netherland Dwarf dam and a Statler purebred sire. Her photo was used in
the first club guidebook to illustrate the standard.


Turborg

Purebred 2XM buck

Turborg was imported from
Sweden by Pridelands in 2000.
He was used extensively in their early breeding program providing
a foundation leg for the Prideland's bloodline. He can be found on the pedigree of many American Lionheads.

The photo was taken in spring 2001 and the doe is about 4 months old. The Harlequin pattern in both Magpie and Japanese was very common in the early Lionheads as many imports were Harlequin or carried the gene.

Imported by JoAnn Statler. He
was a very very dark Sable with
a white front toe tip. He was a Harlequin and a BEW carrier.
He had a nice short body but was very undercut almost to the point
of cow-hocks. He is the sire of
many of the early
Statler Lionheads.



TNT's Zanzibar

Purebred 2XM buck

Out of a pair of the English imports that Toni Tubbs
brought into the USA. He has very dense wool in his mane
but it was rather short in length.
He was a Frosted Pearl. He
sired a number of Lionheads
on the west coast before
moving to the Midwest.

An example of an early F1 hybrid. The photo is taken at well over a
year after Alice had already
produced a number of litters. As
you can see she still carried
some mane with decent length.
The earliest hybrids produced at Cimmaron using the original
Statler lines often carried manes
of this type as adults.

Imported by JoAnn Statler. He was a BEW factored Black Sport. He produced a number
of descendants with large
manes, He was sold to Bob Whitman in 2003. Bob planned to use him in his BEW
breeding program. He is the Grandsire of Wooly Bear.

This doe was out of the Steel
import doe Elsa. Typical of the old imports she has long ears and
face with a low stance. She had excellent color and still has a nice mane in the photo at around 9 month sold. She did lose most
of it after a number of litters.
She was very big 6 lbs.

Wetzel Junior

Hybrid 1XM buck

An early hybrid made by Arden Wetzel using Netherland Dwarfs. The early Wetzel hybrids had excellent color. Early in his breeding program Arden was very successful in reducing size and correcting head and ears.


Litter born fall 1999

bred by Brenda Lindner
one of the earliest purebred litters of Lionheads born in the United States. In this litter are Wooly Bear (center) and Lindner's Zebade (tort to the right). The Sable Point is Lindner's Dusty. Dusty was
used by Lindners extensively. The Harlequin was a doe and
remained at Lindners.

Rare Bits & Pieces bred litter
An early litter of Rare Bits & Pieces bred babies. Born
in Florida to a doe who was sold bred to Bonnie Basler. Some of them show longer heads and ears found on
many early imports.
